Year-Round Staff

Executive Director

Deacon Janie Hague

deaconjanie@campofthecross.com

Janie is originally from Mandan, ND. She worked at Camp of the Cross in the summers during high school and college. She graduated from the University of Mary in 2012. After college, she worked at Lord of Life Lutheran Church in Bismarck until 2018. While working at Lord of Life, she attended Seminary online at Luther Seminary in St. Paul and graduated with a Master’s Degree in Children, Youth, and Family Ministry. She was ordained as a Deacon in June of 2021, and before joining Camp of the Cross, she worked as the Director of Discipleship at Lutheran Church of the Cross in Bismarck.

Ministry through Camp is no stranger to Janie. She has a strong passion for people to experience God through camping ministry. Being able to worship outside and experience the love and grace of God in nature is an encounter that she hopes everyone can experience in their lifetime.

In her free time, Janie loves to go camping, spend time with family and friends, make greeting cards, crochet, and of course, spend time with her fur babies: two Golden Retrievers named Marti & Maggie, and a very opinionated Siamese cat named Sophia.

“I am a bearded Gospel man. I love the outdoors spending time in nature. I have a passion to follow God and what he has called me to do. I enjoy sitting spending time smoking my pipe occasionally and relaxing outside. Working with children has been a lifelong experience, and I love what God has called me to do!” -Cory

Cory started as the Site Manager during the Summer of 2023, and he has jumped right in! Cory brings to us a long resume of working with non-profits, volunteers, and youth! We are excited to have him on staff!

Travis Lyle

travis@campofthecross.com

Travis is so glad to be back at Camp of the Cross! He "grew up” around Seattle, Washington, and after graduating culinary school, he was able to work at some amazing restaurants for 12 years. Then, on a career path change, he moved to North Dakota. Travis now lives in Garrison with his beautiful wife Chrissy, 7 furry animals, and a lot of love for this small community.

Several years ago, he worked at Camp of the Cross on the maintenance team, and he fell in love with everything about camp. Travis is back pursuing his passion for cooking and is looking forward to seeing all the campers and crafters that he has missed so much. Break out the goofy aprons and huge appetites, because we get to eat all of our mistakes (mostly the mistakes we make on purpose). Travis is looking forward to fun summers and great winters at Camp of the Cross!

Jordan Hines

jordan@campofthecross.com

Jordan got his bachelor’s degree from Campbellsville University in Music Composition, where he learned skills in writing music, music history, and improving his skills as a percussionist and with other instruments like guitar and piano. Some of his favorite classes were hymnology, baroque music history, and music in world cultures. He performed in various ensembles such as steel band, percussion ensemble, orchestra, marching band, handbells, and chorale.

He worked for the Tim Hortons Children Foundation: Camp Kentahten for five years. His roles there included: music facilitator - teaching kids our camp song, helping them write their own verse, group ukulele lesson, and drum circles, lead wilderness guide - leading kids on 3 day/2 night camping trips at Red River Gorge in Eastern Kentucky, and program facilitator in the spring and fall seasons leading groups in activities such as crafts, low ropes, and archery.

In his free time you can find Jordan playing his steel drums or ukulele, hiking or kayaking, reading in his hammock, checking out new movies, building legos, or gaming with his friends!

Jordan is looking forward to working with everyone at Camp of the Cross Ministries and growing his faith and relationship with Jesus by stepping into this role as the Hospitality Manager. He will also be serving as our Worship & Music Coordinator during summer seasons.

Abbigail Zeiszler

abbi@campofthecross.com

Abbi joined the CCM Year-Round team on the 15th of August in 2024, as our Outreach and Marketing Manager. However, Abbi is no stranger to the world of Camp of the Cross - she was a camper here for 6 consecutive summers before joining Summer Staff for 7 more consecutive summers. While on summer staff, Abbi had many different roles including SALT/Kitchen Staff, Kitchen Coordinator, Lead Counselor, Daily Program Coordinator and Media Coordinator - and most recently was the Summer Program Director for the summer of 2024. Now, she is excited to take on this new role in the year-round realm of camp!

Abbi grew up in Garrison, ND and graduated from Garrison High School in 2022. While in high school Abbi kept busy being a member of the Dance Team, One-Act/Drama Club, Speech Team, Yearbook Committee, an FFA Officer, and more. Abbi still keeps up with some of these passions when she’s not doing camp things. She participates in the Annual Dickens Village Festival Play in the winter. And she is the Head Instructor of the Just for Kix dance program in Garrison.

When Abbi isn’t busy with any of those things, she loves to travel, attend concerts, go camping, read, explore photography, cook and bake, and spend time with family and friends.

Samantha Pemberton

sam@campofthecross.com

Originally from Colorado, Samantha Pemberton - everyone calls her Sam - is very excited to join the Camp of the Cross Family!

Sam has always loved camps and the unity that it brings. Sam grew up going to Springbrook Bible Camp but decided to give Camp of the Cross a try and fell in love with it. Sam was on summer staff as the Health Officer for 2024 and ultimately decided to stick around. Now, she excitedly fills the Assistant Cook and Support Staff role.

Sam is currently studying Criminal Justice at Colorado State University Global but still enjoys every minute of being on campgrounds. In her free time, she loves to do photography and watch many different sports (SKOL!).

Sam grew up going to church and learning about God and giving back to the people and communities that helped her!

Rose Brunsell

rose@campofthecross.com

Rose joined the CCM team in January of 2024 as our Housekeeper, which she does on top of her full-time job!

When she is not busy working, she is busy with her hobbies which include dart league, geocaching, traveling, and enjoying time with her friends and family.

She has an over energetic, hilarious little floofball Alaskan Malamute puppy named Rush, that she is currently working on training!
